The Internet Archive is a non-profit organization 501(C)(3) seeking to provide universal access to all knowledge. We are an online digital library; our collections include audio, video, texts, web sites and software. Internet Archive works together with organizations like Creative Commons and EFF to preserve and protect the public domain, the open source movement and the creative commons in general.
We are seeking an Office Manager. This position is a very important one, serving as one of the initial points of contact between our users/supporters and our staff. Additionally, this role is critical in assisting archive staff and thus keeping our library going. The main responsibilities include:

Help us digitize library books to go on-line to be seen by millions of people for years to come! We need your help! We are trying to get your public library books up online and need some volunteers to help our regular non-profit staff. If you can give us some of your time, we can give you a chance to help bring digital knowledge to others both near and far! Come join us!
Internet Archive is a non-profit organization working with 80+world-class universities and libraries to create the world's largest digital open-source library.
We are looking for people who are patient, conscientious and detail oriented to work on this exciting project digitizing books. Basic knowledge of computers, digital files and digital cameras helpful. Pleasant, low-stress work environment. A love of books is a plus.
We are seeking volunteers who can operate a Scribe scanning machine that takes digital photos of books from various collections, and puts them online for universal access.
Gain experience in the following fields of endeavor: building an open source digital library, digital photography, and digital scanning software, preservation, presentation and production of digital books. Digitizing special collection books from different centuries. Understanding copyrights and public domain materials.
Commitment: Assistance is needed Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Position involves a commitment of a minimum 3 hours and up, at least one day a week, as well as a minimum commitment length of one month.
For those interested in bolstering their credentials, we offer a four-hour, one day a week, six-week internship. Applicable fields of endeavor include digital photography, digital media, Non-Profit, Library Science, Computer Science. We will train you on Scribe 2 software.
Interrelations: The volunteer Scanner will interact with the Coordinator, the professional scanning staff and other volunteers.

Open Library is an open source software project started by the Internet Archive to build a site with one web page for every book ever published. The site uses a new type of Semantic Wiki that preserves the structured data that already exists for books. Leveraging millions of library and publisher bibliographic records, we have already created a technology demo, available at http://demo.openlibrary.org, and we're looking for a data hacker to help us grow the site to the next level. You will assist the current team of programmers to import data in MARC, ONIX and other formats, crawl and parse information from the web, and integrate and duplicate the records that we get from different sources.
Open Library programming is done in Python, so some experience in this language is required. Please submit code samples with your resume. If interviewed, you will be given a general programming test.

We are currently looking for a talented Server Engineer for the Internet Archive. Specifically this engineer will add an interface to this system for all the Zotero users and other projects as they arise. Zotero client application is a popular easy-to-use research tool that enables scholars to gather, organize, and cite information sources to support their research.

This is part of an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation funded project for the Internet Archive to develop new services that will aid scholarly sharing, collaboration, citation, and annotation. The Internet Archive will work with the Zotero project team from George Mason University to develop a shared Information Commons (the Zotero Commons) for long-term archiving and public access to content contributed by scholars using the Zotero client application.

The Internet Archive is looking for a talented Project Manager to work on the NASA Images Project. In partnership with NASA, the Internet Archive is gathering 50 years worth of still photography, film, video and audio created by NASA and building an online digital archive of these materials so they will be accessible to the public. The initial site was recently launched. You can see it at nasaimages.org.
The person who fills this position will be responsible for managing the evolution of the Website and the process of ingesting massive amounts of photos, videos and audio, along with its associated metadata. This includes working with NASA personnel as well as the technical staff at the Archives and a variety of partners.
This is a "hands-on" position. The Project Manager is expected to not only coordinate all activities but to assist in the process of ingesting new media and metadata into the NASA Images site.
